Linear's Review:
I wasn't really expecting to like this toy, but I've found myself enjoying it more & more.
This is the Deluxe Dragon Dagger. Deluxe Class since it is larger and has more lights, sounds & features. Let's being with the basics. The dagger measures about 13 inches in length, and the handle is about 3 3/4 inches long and 1 1/2 inch around. The detailing is nice, though still lacking in some key areas.
To start playing with the dagger, you push the switch to the On position and you'll hear a double beep sound. To use the Battle Sounds, you press the trigger button. Once pressed, the three different colored lights in the Dragon Coin area will light up & cycle one at a time in this order, Red, Yellow, Green. If you press the trigger again on the Red Light, you'll hear "Dragon Dagger Go" then when you press the trigger a series of three sword clashing sounds is activated. Holding down on the trigger button for a few second will start the section cycle once more. Selecting the Yellow Option, you'll hear "Green Ranger Power" and get a electric shock sound when the trigger is pressed. Finally if the Green Option is chosen, you hear "Power Up" and an explosion sound with each press of the trigger.
Moving onto the mouthpiece and the Dragon Zord Summon Sounds. But first allow me to explain either a design flaw or a safety mechanism inside the Deluxe Dragon Dagger. To activate the two Dragon Zord Sounds, you blow into the mouth piece. So naturally if you just continue to blow your breath into the dagger, condensation will eventually begin to build up inside the toy. After so much moisture is built up inside, the Summoning Sounds will begin to speed up and then the Dragon Zord Summoning Sounds will stop completely. If you allow the toy to sit, air out and dry for some time, you should be able to use the mouthpiece feature once more. I highly recommend not blowing long breaths into the mouthpiece, but rather very short puffs, just enough for the inside plastic piece to flap down, make contact with the trigger inside, and cue the sounds.
So with that bit of information out of the way, once you blow into the mouthpiece, one of two Dragon Zord Summoning Sounds will activate and cause the lights on the dagger to light up. Neither of these sounds are exactly like those from the show, but are still pretty close.
Finally we have the Saber Mode as I call it. The Deluxe Dragon Dagger has a "lightsaber" kind of blade inside of it. To release it, you first move the three locks into the position where they form the Power Rangers Lightning Bolt, with the bottom point of the bolt pointing towards the little green triangle. The press the Blade Release Button on the dagger and thrust downward. The Green Blade extends out and make the Deluxe Dragon Dagger about 27 inches in length. So the green blade measures about 13 3/4 inches long. It is not a round blade, but more of a four sided diamond style blade. To put the blade back into the dagger, simply push it easily back inside, and then move the locks out of the unlocked position.
Finally, the Deluxe Dragon Dagger comes with a nice belt clip that allows kids to attach the dagger to their belts, and easily place and remove it.
Kids
I think kids will really like this version of the Dragon Dagger. The sounds, while not exactly the same as the show, will still be pleasing enough for kids. The mouthpiece feature is really neat, so long as you don't create a lot of condensation in the toy. The Saber Blade will likely be a nice feature for some kids to enjoy as well.
Collectors
This is one of those toys that half of the collectors will probably like, while the other half with despise. Yeah it's a bit bulkier than a Dragon Dagger should be, but it's still a nice piece for a collection. It would have been nice though if the lock area had been done in a gold paint instead of the grey. I'd say if you're a collector who likes the look and features this Dagger has, then you'll probably enjoy having it.
Linear Ranger
When I first saw this online, I really had no plans on buying it. But after seeing a video review online and seeing the mouthpiece feature in action, I decided it was worth a shot. The Saber Blade is a bit much, but as long as I keep it locked in the dagger, there's no problem there. I do hope I am correct in believing that the shutting off of the Dragon Zord Summoning Sounds is a safety device, and not a design flaw. It was kinda stressful taking the toy apart the first night I had it, and using my mother's hairdryer to blow dry all the electronics. But still, I'm really pleased with this toy.
