“Power Rangers Dino Charge: Rise DVD Review”

September 26, 2016

It’s that time of year again, and it is time for some spooky Power Rangers fun. However unlike previous releases, while this volume does include a Halloween episode, it also continues the normal Power Rangers Dino Charge DVDs.

The Power Rangers rise and take action & excitement to the next level as Tyler and Ivan put their differences aside to defuse a bomb; Chase races to free his friends from an unground tomb; Prince Phillip learns he can’t buy his way into the Power Rangers; and Riley & Koda restore the team’s broken bonds of friendship in these dynamic, thrill-filled adventures.

This release is a first for Lionsgate. The slip cover shows off the Red Ranger with Jack-o-Lanterns and other Halloween style & designs. Those continue onto the back with the orange and spiderweb designs. However, the normal cover returns to the standard Dino Charge green & scale design. I like this since it covers both the Halloween aspect, as well as keeping the volume in sync with the other Dino Charge DVDs. However, what I don’t care too much for is the mostly all male-centric Ranger images. The front shows only the four main male Ranger, as does the disc image. The back shows a cool shot with Graphite, Blue, Green, Black & Pink. The insert card shows off the other Dino Charge volumes.

The Main Menu features the main image from the actual case cover, only with just the Red & Blue Rangers, the DVD logo and the menu options. The instrumental version of the Dino Charge theme song plays in the background. The Episodes menu has the Blue Ranger image behind the selections of the five episodes. Finally, the Languages menu has the Black Ranger with the Dino Armor X.

This fourth volume of Dino Charge episodes are pretty good. We pick up with Ivan really working together with the team, to Chase mastering the Dino Armor X Charger, Prince Phillip joining the team, and Riley & Koda fighting to reunite the team. The Halloween episode is also an enjoyable clip show, with some good action.

#13 - “Sync or Swim”
A fun rivalry between Tyler and Ivan becomes a problem when it interferes with the efforts of the Rangers’ to find and defuse a bomb planted by Sledge's monsters.

#14 - “True Black”
When three Rangers become trapped in an underground tomb, it’s a race against time for Chase to master his new power upgrade before his friends are lost forever..

#15 - “Rise of a Ranger”
Prince Phillip discovers money can’t buy the respect of an Energem when he embarks on his own quest to become a Power Ranger.

#16 - “No Matter How Your Slice It”
When one of Sledge’s monsters manages to break the Rangers’ bonds of friendship, it’s up to Riley and Koda to remind their team what they truly mean to each other.

Halloween Episode - “The Ghostest with the Mostest”
When a monster kidnaps a Ranger and takes on their appearance during a Halloween party, Kendall must discover which of the team is a fake before their Energem is stolen.

The DVD comes with a download code, allowing you to download the Dino Charge episodes featured on this DVD. However, the back of the package states that the Halloween episode is also counted as a Bonus Episode.

This is a good DVD for any Power Rangers fan. The episodes have a good amount of action, adventure and humor. I like that the Halloween episode has been included, and not made it’s own special release with other Halloween Power Rangers shows. This is a good addition to any fan’s Power Rangers DVD collection.

The Power Rangers Dino Charge: Rise DVD is available starting September 27th, 2016, wherever DVDs are sold. It should cost $10 to $15, depending on the retailer.

Be sure to also pick up the Power Rangers Dino Charge: Hero DVD on November 1, 2016.
