“Ultra Defenders DVD Review”

June 12, 2014

The fourth volume of the Power Rangers Megaforce DVD series comes out on June 17th. The “Ultra Defenders” DVD comes with the thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth  & sixteenth episodes of Power Rangers Megaforce. There is also a bonus character gallery added to this release. Here is my review.

When the powerful but dangerous Aurora Box gives mutants Bluefur, Bigs and Dream Snatcher one hundred times their normal strength, it’s up to the Power Rangers to stop their destructive rampage! When the evil robots Metal Alice and Rotox attack, the Power Rangers Megaforce must rely on Robo Knight and their new ally, Rico the Robot, to prove that humans and robots can work together!

This volume comes with a holo-box style cover. The cover art for the release is spectacular, and would look great as a wall poster. The holo slip cover brings the artwork to life even more.

The DVD case is just a standard case. The artwork on the front is the same, just without a holo style. The back shows Vrak in his first form, standing with an army of Loogies, as well as Robo Knight ready to attack, and the official description of the release.  There is nothing special included inside. The disc art is mostly the same as the case cover art, but just focusing on the five Rangers in their Ultra Mode.

The four Power Rangers Megaforce episodes on this DVD are:

13 - Dream Snatcher

A dream snatching monster preys on Emma and other humans, eating away their goals and ambitions. With one Ranger down, the team must figure out how to defeat the monster before Emma is lost forever.

14 - Gosei Ultimate

When Bluefur and Bigs use the Aurora box to become even more powerful, Gosei and the Power Rangers must pull out all the stops to defeat them and save the earth.

15 - The Human Factor

The Power Rangers encounter their first Robotic opponents, who try to convince Robo Knight that humans are the true danger to the Earth.

16 - Rico the Robot

When one of Metal Alice's robots malfunctions, Emma and the Power Rangers decide to adopt it and teach it the values of friendship and freedom.

These are four mostly strong episodes. They give good attention to the increasing threat of the Mutants, as well as Vrak & Metal Alice.

After not having any bonus features in the previous release, the Ultra Defenders DVD goes come with a Character Gallery. All five Rangers & Robo Knight have their own extensive bio that you can read through, while a few pictures of each character scroll on the left side of the screen. I think this is a good feature, but it would have been cooler to also give his an actual gallery of images of the Rangers, Robo Knight & others to scroll through.

“The Great Dragon Spirit” DVD is good for both kids & collector fans of Power Rangers Megaforce. The episodes are good and the Character Gallery is enjoyable enough. The cover art itself is worth having.

The Power Rangers Megaforce “Ultra Defenders” DVD will be available on June 17th, wherever DVDs are sold. It should cost $10 to $15, depending on the retail store. The next Power Rangers Megaforce DVD, “A Battle to the Finish”, will be released on August 12, 2014.
