“The Mysterious Robo Knight DVD Review”

January 16, 2014

The second Power Rangers Megaforce DVD, “The Mysterious Robo Knight”, was released this week. It contains the fifth, sixth, seventh & eighth episodes of Megaforce, and comes with a nice bonus Mega Bloks figure. However, it is severely lacking in bonuses & extras. Here is my review.

The action-packed series continues as Troy, Noah, Emma, Gia and Jake POWER UP to defend Earth from evil insectoid monsters! The Rangers must use friendship, teamwork and their Megazords to overcome evil villains Beezara, Dizchord, Bluefur, Bigs, Hisser and Creepox! Then, when all seems lost, a mysterious new ally emerges – ROBO KNIGHT! With the help of this transforming robot, Earth’s mightiest defenders will never surrender!

The DVD actually comes packaged in a thicker cardboard box. It is the thickness of two normal DVD cases. The reason for this box is the Mega Bloks bonus mini figure, that you can see on the right side window of the package. The downside of this box is that the cardboard is quite thin, and thus can be easily dented or bent in retail stores.

The DVD case itself is the standard case you would expect. It has the same artwork as the box. The artwork is quite nice for the cover. I like the Robo Knight helmet having the five Megaforce Rangers appearing in his visor. The back cover is good as well. The disc is similar to the cover art.

As I stated before, the DVD contains four Megaforce episodes. They are:

05 - “United We Stand”

Best Friends Gia and Emma are turned into bitter enemies by a vicious monster, Beezara. Meanwhile, the guys are captured by "queen bee" Beezara and turned into her drone slaves.

06 - “Harmony and Dischord”

When a monster attacks the city with music that produces physical pain, the Rangers must fight back in an unorthodox way with a song of their own.

07 - “Who's Crying Now?”

After Troy deals with some small-minded bullies at school, the Rangers square off against a more dangerous bully, Creepox.

08 - “Robo Knight”

The mysterious Robo Knight joins the Power Rangers. Can he help them defeat toxic monsters that threaten the earth?

These are a good group of episodes that give focus to Gia & Emma, bring the end of Creepox, and finally introduce Robo Knight. The episodes are in their non-HD format, presented in 16x9 widescreen.

The DVD comes with this Megaforce Ultra Mode Red Ranger Mega Bloks mini figure & brick. The red on the figure is done in a translucent red plastic.

There are no other bonuses or extras included with or on the DVD. This is disappointing when you compare this release to other Power Rangers DVDs from Lionsgate. I would have liked for them to continue including codes to access digital copies of the episodes, or even some of the YouTube videos for bonus features.

“The Mysterious Robo Knight” DVD is good for kids or diehard fans of Megaforce. It is good for adding the second batch of four episodes to the Megaforce DVD collection. However, the overall lack of bonuses & extras is a downside.

The Power Rangers Megaforce “The Mysterious Robo Knight” DVD is now available wherever DVDs are sold. It should cost $10 to $15, depending on the retail store. The next Power Rangers Megaforce DVD will be released on April 8, 2014.
