“Valentines Day”

February 11, 2012

So Valentines Day is just a few days away. Hmm, what ever could Linear Ranger, a guy who has constantly made jokes and been single his entire life, have to say on the subject? Well, you might just be surprised, or shocked. Remember though, this is the new Ryan, the new Linear Ranger talking.

Fair warning, I don't know what I'm diving into by writing this, but I figured what the heck, why not.

In this entry I want to speak to two groups of individuals; the Haves and the Have Nots.

Let us begin with the Haves. This group is made up of individuals that have those significant others in their lives that they can spend this holiday with. I wish to express one key point with this group. Do not let Valentines Day be the only day that you really show and express your love & devotion. Yes, Valentines Day is meant to show the ones you love that you do indeed love them. But doing so on just one day is never good. You should treat every day like Valentines Day, always making sure your partner knows just how you feel. You should not just give them presents or symbols on affection on this day, but any day. The most random acts of love are usually the ones that are most remembered. So my main point for the Haves, enjoy Valentines Day, but make sure your feelings extend long after the day has past.

And now to my group, the Have Nots. Yes the individuals who are single and alone in the world. Though really, this group has two sub groups; the Lonely & the Looking . My advice for both is simple. Do not give up, love can still find you & you can still find love.

I do believe anyone can find love. It doesn't matter how nerdy or eccentric you may be, your general appearance, or your thoughts or feelings on life. There can still be someone out there for you. I admit, I have not subscribed to this belief before, but I have found to really have an optimistic view on the world, I have to truly believe in more than what I originally thought possible. It can happen, you just have to believe in yourself and have hope.

While that advice was mainly for the Lonely Group, I wish to end with the Looking Group. Yes you know that group. The Looking are those that have their eye on someone, but are too fearful to do anything about those feelings. So I tell you this, DO IT!

As I look around my collection, I see figures, collectibles and other various representations of so many heroes. While these heroes may be fictional, it does not take away from the fact that each and every one of them never falters in their courage to do what is necessary. Can we, the individuals who look up to these characters, really just sit by and idolize them, yet not take all their lessons to heart?

"But Linear, what if we fail?" Yes, I know some are likely asking that question. My answer? SO WHAT? Again, look at all our fictional heroes. They all experienced failures of some kind. Did they ever give up after those failures? NO! It takes courage to act, but it takes even more real courage to get back up after you fail, and try again.

Trust me, there is an old saying, "Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained." I can tell you it's completely true. In my high school time, I was too afraid & terrified to ever express my feelings or emotions for someone I cared about. Yes Linear Ranger, the guy that if a twenty story tall Hell Beast were to erupt from the Earth, would go charging in to fight with only a plastic Power Rangers sword and toy Sonic Screwdriver, who would gladly fight until the death to save anyone, that same man was a coward. And where did my cowardice get me? I sit here, completely alone, but at least trying to help prevent others from my fate.

Now to sum things up. To the Haves, cherish your love beyond just one day. For the Lonely Have Nots, do not give up. Then the Looking Have Nots, gather your courage and do something. Finally, as for me, well I do believe my window of opportunity closed long ago. Everything happens for a reason, and now I sit, just hoping others will heed this single nerd's advice. Will my time ever come again? Who knows, but as I do like to say...Nothing Is Impossible.
