“Channel Awesome is AWESOME”

June 14, 2010

I probably need to preface this entry by explaining that the websites and videos I will be referencing are not appropriate for viewers under the age of thirteen.  So this is the point where any young kids should just turn around now and forget this ledger entry exists.  One final disclaimer, I can not and will not be held responsible for the content of the sites and reviews referenced in this ledger entry.  I am simply stating my own personal opinion and my enjoyment of said content.

I feel pretty safe in saying that for those of my age, and around my age group, our childhoods were pretty dang cool.  But as much as we like to look back and think that our favorite shows, movies, games and comic books were the best around, once we actually look back at them now, we may find this not always to be the truth.  Though we could do this retrospect ourselves, it is much more entertaining when those that lived through the same era to point things out we missed, with a good dose of humor.

This is where the folks at Channel Awesome come in.  I first came to find the Internet comedians of this fine group about a year and a half ago.  At the time it was just a small group of people whom had their videos located at www.thatguywiththeglasses.com.  The main star of the team being the guy himself, the Nostalgia Critic.

The Nostalgia Critic, as well as Chester A Bum and That Guy With The Glasses are performed by Doug Walker.  The critic is his main character and his videos look back at the TV shows and movies that our age group grew up on.  He sheds light on all the crap that we were actually dealt in our childhoods, as well as also giving recognition to the positive aspects too.  However, when things from our past are really bad, the Nostalgia Critic will not hold back from tearing them a new one, going on a ranting rampage and even busting out his gun.  All of this is done with great comedic timing and delivery.

Next up on the main team is Angry Joe, otherwise known as Joe Vargas.  Joe and his crack team protect our generation from the evil video game forces of Corporate.  In the Angry Joe Show, Joe reviews modern video games and rates them on a scale of one to ten.  When a game is good, Joe and his team let you know, but when it's bad Joe will not hold back because there is no excuse for bad games.  But even if a game is bad, Joe still gives the developers credit for anything they may have done correctly.

The next reviewer brings a good deal of comedy, as will as a dose of insanity to the mix.  The Spoony Experiment is done by Noah Antwiler and Burton the Robot .  Spoony does many types of reviews, such as popular old school computer and console games, some modern game reviews, and even movie reviews.  But the Spoony One does have a dark said.  The evil mad scientist Dr. Insano is Spoony's evil persona.  Insano wears your typical doctor's scrubs and coat, but his insanity is shown in the goggles.  The doctor wants to take over the world with, what else, SCIENCE!  The demented doc is also an arch rival to the forth member of the team.

Linkara is the host of Atop the Forth Wall, where bad comics BURN!  These reviews of horrible comics are done by Lewis Lovhaug.  Linkara takes on the bad comics from any and all times and publishers.  He points out the nonsensical idiocies of a comic's writing, art or general direction.  This man is able to make his way through these bad tomes with the aid of his Continuity Alarm, robot Pollo, and his arsenal of weapons, including his magic gun (where did he purchase that).  His reviews also sometimes feature Linkara's own battle to keep our reality safe.  To top things off, Linkara is a Power Rangers fan himself and has recently begun re-watching the series from the beginning.  As he has progressed through, he has made very extensive video reviews analyzing each season in his History of Power Rangers series.  Though please have some patience and do not ask him when the next episode is coming.

These four are just the tip of the iceberg of what Channel Awesome has to offer.  The Nostalgia Chick reviews shows and movies that were geared toward girls, Lord Kat plays hard video games until his successfully beats them, and Marz Gurl does editorials on Anime.  There is a ton of talent on Channel Awesome over at thatguywiththeglasses.com.  I recommend checking out their two year anniversary video series, as it is excellently written, directed, and performed.

So for anyone raised in the eighties or early ninths, then I suggest you check out the awesome crew at Channel Awesome.  There is literally something for everyone.  And if you can't find something that will make you laugh, well then why are you even in my corner of the internet anyway?

Have a Nice Day
